Saudi Arabia: Petrochemicals manufacturers in Saudi Arabia have set up a 15-member organisation to liaise with the government in representing Saudi anti-dumping cases abroad, Saudi Gazette has reported. Membership of the 'The Saudi Committee of Petrochemical Manufacturers,' which is to be headed by Mohamed Al-Mady, CEO of Saudi Basic Industries Corp (Sabic), is limited to the major upstream petrochemical manufacturers such as SABIC and Tasnee. The kingdom has had anti-dumping duties placed on some of its products, such as propylene and methanol, by countries such as China, India and Turkey. While India and China subsequently withdrew the anti-dumping proposals, Turkey is still studying a proposal to impose an anti-dumping duty on Saudi methanol imports.

In almost 20 years, the U.S. has never been closer to energy independence, which the nation has been seeking since the 1973 Arab oil embargo created a recession, Bloomberg reports. Domestic oil output has hit an eight-year high and federally mandated ethanol use has curbed oil demand. Furthermore, in the last six years, the U.S. has boosted the proportion of demand met from domestic supply to about 81 percent in 2011, the highest level since 1992, according to a Bloomberg analysis of U.S. Department of Energy data...
